ULS Santa Maria and THERYQ Extend Innovative FLASH Radiotherapy Partnership for Three More Years

The Santa Maria Local Health Unit (ULS Santa Maria) and THERYQ, a pioneering company in the development of radiotherapy technology, announce the extension of their valuable strategic partnership for an additional three years. This agreement, formalized at the Hospital de Santa Maria this Friday, November 14th, underscores both institutions’ commitment to innovation and guarantees the continued development of a technology that promises to revolutionize oncological treatments in the field of Radiotherapy.

The partnership focuses on the implementation of the FLASHKNiFE, a cutting-edge linear accelerator that utilizes the FLASH radiotherapy technique. As demonstrated in pre-clinical studies, this technology allows the radiation dose to be delivered in fractions of a second, an advancement that translates into greater speed and precision in treatment.

Santa Maria will be one of the first centers worldwide to test this equipment. “This agreement marks the beginning of a new phase of relationship with THERYQ, now in a direct manner, through a valuable partnership, which demonstrates how much we believe in this project. It will bring absolutely innovative, world-class technology to Santa Maria’s patients, representing the future of radiotherapy,” stated the President of ULSSM, Carlos das Neves Martins. His words were reinforced by Ludovic Le Meunier, CEO of THERYQ, who highlighted the importance of the ULSSM Radiotherapy Service teams in the development and testing of this new technology.

The renewal of this partnership for three more years is a recognition of the excellent work carried out by the ULS Santa Maria Radiotherapy Service, which has been part of a European consortium in this area. The extension will allow the consolidation of results from a clinical trial in this field.

ULS Santa Maria reaffirms its mission to provide patients with the most innovative and effective treatments, moving forward in partnership with major international scientific research brands.
